Apr 11, 2025 am 09:10 AMCD Projekt Red Acquires The Molasses Flood, Project Sirius Continues Development
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially absorbed The Molasses Flood, the Boston-based studio developing the highly anticipated multiplayer Witcher game, Project Sirius. This merger, announced on April 1st, 2025, via The Molasses Flood's website, sees CDPR assuming all rights and obligations of the now-defunct independent entity.
Project Sirius Remains in Development
Despite the merger, Project Sirius continues its journey through pre-production. The Molasses Flood team will remain with CDPR, ensuring the project's continuation. Additionally, The Molasses Flood's previous titles, The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, will continue to be published by the CD Projekt Group.
Key Personnel Changes
However, the transition isn't without change. Damian Isla, co-founder and former design director/principal architect of Project Sirius, has left The Molasses Flood. Isla's LinkedIn post clarifies this was a personal decision, expressing optimism about both the merger and Project Sirius' future, describing the game as "amazing."
A Busy Future for the Witcher Franchise
The Witcher universe shows no signs of slowing down. Beyond Project Sirius, fans can anticipate the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix series, the recently released animated film Sirens of the Deep, and the long-awaited Witcher 4 video game.
While Project Sirius' development has faced challenges, including layoffs in 2023, its future within CDPR suggests a continued, albeit potentially delayed, path to release. With Isla's departure and the game's history, it's likely several years before we see the multiplayer Witcher experience. Nevertheless, the wealth of other Witcher content provides ample entertainment for fans in the meantime.
