Forbes NYT 'Connections' Tips and Solutions for Saturday, June 7By Paul Tassi
A week ago, I wrapped up my explorations in Scotland and Ireland. Although I felt quite refreshed the following day post my 23-hour journey, I’ve been feeling somewhat disoriented all week. Perhaps it's the jet lag or possibly the signs of aging. Regardless, with age comes knowledge, or however you wish to phrase it. One thing is certain—I’ve certainly honed my puzzle-solving abilities over time! After all, when you're writing guides for solving puzzles, you have to excel at it. Anyway, my dear Connection enthusiasts, let’s dive into creating word associations and solving our Connections puzzle. Here we go!
How to Play Connections
Connections ranks as the second most popular NYT Games puzzle game, trailing only the main crossword, and it's a highly enjoyable, free activity that stimulates your mind daily. You can play it right here.
The aim is to take a set of 16 words and establish links between four pairs of four of them. These connections could involve specific categories or require you to identify words that come before or after the ones given. The complexity increases as you progress.
There is only one correct set of answers for this puzzle, and you have a limited number of attempts, so random guessing won’t work. Difficulty levels are indicated by colors, typically starting with yellow, transitioning to blue/green, and culminating in purple for the toughest challenges. Be aware of this progression when beginning.
You select four words you believe are interconnected; if correct, you'll receive confirmation and see how they connect. If nearly correct, it will notify you that you're one away. You have four chances before losing. If you wish to avoid failure and discover the answers, either visit this guide or clear your web cookies and retry. For additional puzzles, consider subscribing to NYT Games to access the entire archive of past puzzles.

- BULL
- BORN
- BRED
- DOE
- STAND
- SPOUSE
- BEAR
- EDUCATION
- CACHE
- DOVE

Hints for the Connections groups today are:
- ?Yellow group – Words indicating perseverance.
- ?Blue group – Information headers on a person’s Wikipedia page.
- ?Green group – Animals used metaphorically in economics.
- ?Purple group – Words sounding like slang for money.
What Are Today’s Connections Categories?
Here are the full spoilers revealing today’s categories:
- ?Yellow group – Persevere.
- ?Blue group – Sidebar topics on a person’s Wikipedia page.
- ?Green group – Economic animal metaphors.
- ?Purple group – Money slang homophones.
What Are Today’s Connections Solutions?
Below are the complete answers for each group, including the four words in each category. Spoilers ahead if you prefer not to see them yet. The Connections solutions are:
- ?Yellow group – Hold, Last, Stand, Stay
- ?Blue group – Born, Education, Occupation, Spouse
- ?Green group – Bear, Bull, Dove, Hawk
- ?Purple group – Bred, Cache, Doe, Lute
Interestingly, I was fairly confident about the Green group initially but waited to verify other groupings first. The words LAST and STAND led me to pair these with HOLD and STAY, all terms suggesting persistence or standing firm. Next, spotting DOE among the animals not tied to market descriptions (like BULL or BEAR), I considered DOE and BRED as potentially representing BREAD and DOUGH, leading me to think of baking. However, upon noticing CACHE and LUTE, I realized this group referred to CASH and LOOT—slang for money. Thus, I entered these and achieved Purple status on my second attempt. Moving forward, I confirmed my initial grouping, leaving Blue: BORN, EDUCATION, SPOUSE, OCCUPATION—terms describing aspects of a person’s life. This was the least intuitive group for me today, and I hadn’t considered it as a Wikipedia sidebar. Overall, though not the toughest Connections I’ve encountered, it still posed a decent challenge.
