Hey, folks! Today’s NYT Strands hints, spangram and answers for Saturday, June 14 are coming right up.

How To Play Strands

The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a variation of the traditional word search. You can find it on the NYT website and within the NYT Games app along with games like Wordle and Connections (which we also feature in daily guides at Forbes Gaming).

A new Strands game becomes available every day. It presents you with a six by eight letter grid. Your task is to locate a set of words that share something in common, and you’ll be given a clue about the theme. When you uncover a theme word, it will stay highlighted in blue.

Additionally, you must discover a special word known as a spangram. This word reveals what all the other words have in common. The spangram connects at least two sides of the board but might not start or end there. While the theme words won’t be proper names, the spangram could be one. Once found, the spangram will remain highlighted in yellow.

Each letter is used exactly once across the theme words and the spangram. You can link letters vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, and you can change directions mid-word. If you're using a touchscreen device, double tap the last letter to submit your guess.

If you identify three valid non-theme words that are at least four letters long, the Hint button becomes available. Clicking this will highlight letters that form one of the theme words.

Keep in mind—you'll need to stay alert. Sometimes you'll have to complete missing phrases, while other times the puzzle may rely on synonyms or homophones. The difficulty level changes from day to day, and the puzzle creators often try to throw in surprises.

Here’s the fully completed grid…

This one felt like a puzzle where the designer had a creative spangram shape in mind and built the rest of the puzzle around it. Given the theme hint, I thought it might relate to sigils. Close enough, but that didn't directly assist me in finding the spangram. As I uncovered STAR, CROSS and MOON, the spangram became obvious and the remaining words were easier to locate.

Edit: Turns out today marks Flag Day in the U.S., which I honestly didn’t know was a recognized event—so this makes for a fittingly themed puzzle.

I solved it without any hints, and the spangram was the fourth theme word I discovered.
