Jose Aldo is no longer listed on the UFC’s active roster. Although Aldo made it clear after his recent defeat to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 that he was done fighting in the Octagon and in MMA altogether, the news has now been officially confirmed.

It took a different turn early Monday morning when this post came out from UFC Roster Watch.

By afternoon, the post had nearly 12,000 likes. It reached close to a million impressions, and one of the earliest comments came from social media figure Andrew Tate. Many others shared memes of a visibly upset Aldo sitting inside the Octagon after the controversial unanimous decision loss to Zahabi, especially since the Brazilian icon missed weight.

Nearly every comment was filled with praise for one of the greatest featherweight champions and fighters—regardless of division—in MMA history. Typically, when someone of Aldo’s stature retires, you’d expect Dana White to chime in with some thoughts on their career.

That hasn’t happened yet, but it would be intriguing to hear what White has to say about one of the UFC’s most iconic figures.

Unless there's an unexpected comeback, Aldo, 38, ends his career with a record of 32-10. He lost his last two fights to Zahabi and Mario Bautista, though I personally scored both bouts in Aldo’s favor. The judges simply didn’t see it that way.

According to Tapology, Aldo ranks as the No. 7 MMA Striker of All-Time, the No. 3 Fan-Favorite fighter, and the eighth greatest MMA Fighter of All Time.

Before the WEC was merged into the UFC, Aldo was 8-0 and held the WEC featherweight title. During that stretch, he recorded seven finishes, including notable victories over Cub Swanson, Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, and Manny Gamburyan across a dominant 15-month span between June 2009 and September 2010.

In April 2011, Aldo made his UFC debut with a unanimous decision win over Mark Hominick, which earned him a Fight of the Night bonus. From there, he began his UFC run with a stellar seven-fight winning streak, defeating Kenny Florian, Chad Mendes (twice), Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung, and Ricardo Lamas.

Junior’s dominance ended abruptly when Conor McGregor knocked him out in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December 2015. For the rest of his career, Aldo went 7-8.

He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023 during his first retirement. However, after participating in three boxing matches later that year, Aldo returned to the UFC with a strong unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Martinez in May 2024 in Brazil.

That win positioned Aldo as a possible dark horse contender for the UFC bantamweight title. Unfortunately, his momentum stalled following losses to Bautista and Zahabi. Coupled with the difficult weight cut heading into the fight with Zahabi, Aldo decided to end his fighting career.
