I'm a bit behind on this Connections guide. My apologies. It was my birthday this weekend and I guess I was just too distracted by that fact – either that, or I’m just so old now that my memory is leaving me – but I absolutely forgot to publish this when I normally do. But I'm here now to help you with this challenging puzzle, so let's get started!

How To Play Connections

Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.

The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four sets of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they become more complex from there.

There is only one set of correct answers for this, and you only have a certain number of attempts so you can’t just randomly guess until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so keep that in mind when starting off and while connecting them.

You select the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you’re one away. Again, four mistakes and you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either check here, or delete your web cookies and try again. • ?Purple group – What “Left” might mean.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

The complete answers are below for each group, finally listing the four words in each category. Spoilers ahead if you don't want to see this much. The Connections answers are:

• ?Yellow group – Bulletin, Flash, Report, Wire
• ?Blue group – Happiness, Liberty, Life, Pursuit
• ?Green group – Entourage, Euphoria, Insecure, Succession
• ?Purple group – Departed, Port, Progressive, Remaining

The tricky word in this batch was WIRE which I first paired with ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE and SUCCESSION – all HBO shows. Well, I was right about the HBO shows, but wrong about WIRE (even though The Wire is one of the greatest shows ever made). It turned out to be INSECURE, the one show in this list I wasn't familiar with. I realized WIRE could pair with BULLETIN and then added FLASH and REPORT and that worked for yellow. When I saw LIFE, LIBERTY and PURSUIT I noticed they all fit nicely with HAPPINESS. Once I had found the last HBO show I entered the remaining four, even though I didn’t know how they were related. But they really all mean “l(fā)eft” in one way or another. Tricky one today!
