Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a fantastic start.

I feel like you may not quite have enough daily word games in your rotation. So here’s another one.

It’s called Gridogram, and it feels like a cross between Strands and Bracket City (though the creator says it’s like Boggle). You have to connect letters on a grid to make words. The idea is to spell out words in a phrase related to that day in history. It might be something that was coined by a person born on that day many years ago, or a line from a famous speech made on that date.

Each valid word you find (including those that aren’t in the phrase) counts toward a hint. This allows you to guess any letter and if it’s in the phrase, it’s displayed – a bit like you’re playing Wheel of Fortune.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, June 24 are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT’s website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

I slipped up right out of the gate with agues of SOLID, FIRM, TOUGH and RIGID. STERN was also an option there, and I was one away from a group. Boo.

I decided to go elsewhere with what I thought were things you'd see on a movie poster. I was close enough for the blues.

PLANE, LINE, POINT and FIRM all seemed like stationary or graph terms. But again, I was one away from a group. Ugh.

The greens weren't too difficult though. So I had those taken care of next.

After a few moments of chin-scratching, I realized that a SOLID aligned with the rest of the purples, and that would leave the four yellows to go neatly together. So I assembled those groups and claimed my 119th win on the spin.

(The purples are out of order. A POINT is an object in a zero-dimensional space, then it goes LINE, PLANE – a completely flat thing, a bit like a sheet of paper – and OBJECT)

Published by film distributor A24, it’s an illustrated series of suggestions for movies to watch with kids at various ages. The authors chose films that would be relatively easy to find, and includes classics as well as some more titles that aren’t as well-known. There are some activities too, including a wordsearch.

This isn’t an ad or affiliate thing (I’m not even linking to where you can buy it!), just something I picked up as a gift and found to be very cool. It’s a great gift for a young (or slightly older) cinephile in your life.
