It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: it’s time for another game of Connections!

The only time I’ve been to Japan was in February and March of 2020. I would like to go back to visit some of the things I missed out on the first time around when they were closed due to… reasons. And yes, to visit Super Nintendo World and the Nintendo museum, which have opened since then.

For well over a year now, I have had a tracker set up for flights to Tokyo. Every so often, I’ll get an email telling me about the latest deals. A very reasonable offer popped up a couple of days ago. And, just before I wrote this, I saw an ad pop up for accommodation in Osaka. Is the world trying to tell me something? Hmmm….

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to hang out with us.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, June 25 are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT’s website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

I felt like CRAN, RASP, STRAW and BLUE (as in -berry) was a red herring. Still. I went for it, and failed miserably. C’est la vie. At least the greens were clear at that point, so I got those taken care of.

I suspected that FLAMING, RASP and BLUE might all be related to lips, but that didn't quite work. Still, as I looked at CRAN, I realized it had to be a purple. RAVE didn't really fit with anything naturally either.

After some thought, and looking around the rest of the grid, the purples clicked. They related to crane, flamingo, heron and raven. For the record, we had this category with three different birds on March 8 last year. That group was CONDO, HAW, HERO, LOO, in case you were wondering. I'm not too ashamed to admit I pinched today's hint from there.

Anyway, I vaguely remembered that a RASP was a kind of tool. So that helped me get the blues (there weren’t going to be many options for CHISEL). That left the fairly-obvious-at-that-point yellows for the win. JACK can be something like Monterey Jack.

P.S. I’m not very crafty, as much as I’d like to be. I’m much too imprecise to make nice physical objects with my hands. Still, I remember seeing a video a few years back showing how it would be possible to make your own smartwatch.
