This article highlights some of my favorite titles from the bundle. I already own several of these games, yet I still grabbed this bundle to support charity and encourage publishers to keep offering their titles in such bundles. For anyone curious about role-playing games beyond Dungeons & Dragons, this is a huge chance to explore something fresh.

Apocalypse World 2nd Edition

There's something exhilarating about the end of civilization. Whether fighting mutants on deaththrucks barreling down shattered highways or scavenging ruins for forgotten treasures, post-apocalyptic games echo many themes found in classic fantasy. Apocalypse World 2nd Edition allows groups to craft their own doomed world and play through the trials of survival.

This game has become one of the most influential over the past two decades with a streamlined, fast-paced system that embraces narrative. The character archetypes not only define who they are but also shape the intricate relationships within the group. Everyone contributes to shaping how the world collapses, easing some of the burden on the GM.

Call of Cthulhu

A stone-cold classic, Call of Cthulhu celebrated its 40th anniversary recently. This game turned many RPG conventions upside down—characters degrade mentally and physically over time, and often fleeing is more rewarding than fighting. While diving into the mysteries of the Cthulhu Mythos can be deadly for characters, players keep coming back for more.

It’s likely that more people today know of Cthulhu through adaptations rather than H.P. Lovecraft’s original stories. Call of Cthulhu was instrumental in that shift. It was among the first games to offer players a hidden, terrifying world beneath our own familiar reality.

Cyberpunk RED

Just because we may already be living in a cyberpunk-style dystopia doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play one. Cyberpunk RED has benefited from the popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 and brought one of the most iconic games of the 80s and 90s back into the spotlight at local game shops. Sometimes, playing through a dystopian future is the best way to cope with an uncertain present.

Grabbing the core rulebook in this bundle unlocks a ton of extra content. Publisher R. Talsorian Games regularly releases free DLC expanding rules, gear, and ideas for Game Masters. Night City feels alive in every sense, choom.

Masks: A New Generation

While Avatar Legends might be the bigger name from Magpie Games in this bundle, Masks: A New Generation is my personal favorite from them. It’s a Powered By The Apocalypse game designed to capture the feel of teen superhero comics like Teen Titans and Invincible. The focus is on teenage life—making mistakes, and evolving identities.

Instead of hit points, characters take conditions representing emotional distress. These conditions guide roleplay and impose penalties on certain actions. The cleverest design choice is that to clear a condition, a player must make rash or impulsive decisions—like unintentionally hurting someone they care about or stubbornly trying something impossible.

Mazes

Many games try to emulate the "good old days." Modern D&D leans toward cinematic high fantasy. Classic D&D was grittier, stranger, and bloodier.

Mazes captures that older vibe by focusing only on the most crucial parts of dungeon crawling. Characters use a single die for traits, while the GM uses a pool of darkness points reflecting current danger levels. Perfect for those who want to run old D&D modules without trudging through endless corridors and minor encounters.

Outgunned

Action movies have their own kind of fantasy genre. From James Bond to Fast and the Furious, these films bend physics and tell mythic tales of CGI-enhanced heroism. Outgunned is set squarely in that world.

The system uses opposed dice pools instead of fixed difficulty numbers, which speeds up gameplay. Characters are built by combining a broad Role (like Commando or Nobody) with a dramatic Trope (such as Lone Wolf or Jerk With A Heart of Gold). Designed for short two- or three-session arcs, it always leaves room for a sequel.

Spire

These are revolutionary times, and Spire puts players right in the middle of a doomed uprising. You play members of the oppressed underclass in a city ruled by high elves, uniting to strike back against their cold, wealthy overlords. Fans of morally complex stories like in Andor will find a lot to love here.

Though it's high fantasy, the classes are strange, unique, and unforgettable. Why play a wizard when you could be a Vermissian Sage, keeper of secrets from the abandoned magical subway system? Even if they don’t manage to overthrow the elven rule, the story of how they fought back will be legendary.

Warhammer Fantasy Role Play

After years in the shadow of D&D, Warhammer seems poised for its moment. Starting as a miniatures game, it's now a multimedia franchise including novels, video games, and potentially a TV series starring superfan Henry Cavill. Warhammer Fantasy Role Play laid the foundation for all of that, and this edition is a perfect entry point into the greatest grimdark setting of the 1980s.

This is a richly detailed dark fantasy RPG developed over decades. Its European-inspired cultures mix with ancient horrors lurking just beneath the surface. Surprisingly, the whole thing is laced with a dark, dry humor.

Wildsea

Roleplaying games are at their best when they're delightfully bizarre. Wildsea is one of the strangest recent releases. Players sail chainsaw-powered ships across a vast ocean of trees that regrow almost instantly thanks to Verdancy.

Pirates are common, yes—but exploration is central to the game. One example adventure has players raiding a massive library filled with books from before the Verdancy. In a world where wonder is hard to come by, Wildsea nails it.
