Apple has released the sixth beta version of macOS Monterey for users participating in the testing programs. This sixth beta arrives three weeks after the fifth beta, and is now only one version behind beta 7 of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.
macOS Monterey introduces a range of new features for Mac users, such as Facetime screen sharing, Facetime grid view for group calls, updates to Safari tabs and the overall Safari interface, Live Text for extracting text from images, Universal Control to use a mouse and keyboard across both Mac and iPad, Quick Notes integration with apps, Low Power Mode for Mac laptops, the Shortcuts app for Mac, and numerous enhancements across various applications including Photos, Music, Messages, Maps, and more.
How to Download & Install macOS Monterey Beta 6
If you're enrolled in the beta testing program for macOS, it's important to back up your Mac using Time Machine before proceeding with the latest beta installation.
- Open the ? Apple menu and select “System Preferences”
- Navigate to the “Software Update” preference panel
- Opt to download and install macOS Monterey beta 6
After downloading, your Mac will need to restart in order to complete the update process.
Beta software is designed primarily for advanced users, though anyone can install the macOS Monterey public beta if they wish to try it out. All that’s needed is a Mac compatible with Monterey and an understanding that the system may be less stable and contain bugs.
Currently, macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 remains the most recent fully stable release of macOS.
The official release of macOS Monterey is anticipated this fall.
