Dune: Awakening - Advanced Planetologist Quest Walkthrough
Jun 18, 2025 pm 06:04 PMThere are five distinct skill classes in Dune: Awakening, but initially, only four are available. The fifth, the Planetologist, requires you to locate a trainer somewhere out in the desert.
Completing his initial quest will grant access to basic Planetologist skills. However, if you're aiming for more, be prepared for a lengthy and involved process. It'll take you all over the world and require significant effort, but ultimately, you’ll unlock every skill the Planetologist has to offer.
How To Find Imperial Testing Station No. 197
The first step of the advanced Planetologist quest begins at Imperial Testing Station No. 197, located on the south side of the Western Vermillius Gap.
Upon arrival, descend through the large hole that leads to the entrance; you'll find Derek waiting at the bottom, and you must speak with him.
How To Find The Minimic Film Records In Imperial Testing Station No. 197
After your conversation with Derek, you'll need to retrieve the Minimic Film records inside this Imperial Station, which is something you'll do repeatedly during this quest.
Head Back To Derek's Camp
Another recurring task in this questline is returning to Derek's camp, which is situated directly above Imperial Testing Station No. 2, approximately half a kilometer from Griffin's Reach.
Make your way here and speak with Derek, who will then ask you to travel to Arakeen.
How To Fly To Arakeen
If you don’t own an Ornithopter, you can still fly to either Arakeen or Harko Village, though it will cost you 2,500 Solari per trip. For this guide, we'll depart from Griffin's Reach, as it's nearby, but any location with an Ornithopter pilot works.
How To Find Cyprian In Arakeen
Once you land in Arakeen, climb the stairs and immediately turn right into the Salusan Bull. Go up two flights of stairs and head to the back right corner of the bar.
Cyprian will be sitting under an umbrella with a bodyguard close by.
How To Find Imperial Testing Station No. 76
Next, you’ll visit Imperial Testing Station No. 76, found in the central area of Jabal Eifrit Al-janub.
How To Find The Planetologist Inside Testing Station No. 76
This time, Derek is located just inside the entrance, down the first staircase and locked in a cage between two doors. He blends in with his surroundings, but his unique glowglobe should help you spot him.
How To Find The Minimic Film Records In Imperial Testing Station No. 76
Inside, you'll have to pass through multiple rooms until you reach one with glass windows on the left overlooking the main floor. Climb the staircase into that room and go to the false wall in the back right to uncover the Minimic Film Records.
How To Find Thufir Hawat
Once you return to camp and speak with Derek, he'll send you back to Arakeen to meet with Thufir Hawat, a Mentat. You'll need to fly there again and proceed to the opposite end of the landing site, entering the open-roofed section.
How To Find Sietch Tarl
Before returning to Derek, you must locate Sietch Tarl, which lies along the border between northern O'odham and the Western Shield Wall. There’s a noticeable gap in the rocks, and a map marker should indicate the exact spot.
Enter this crevice, read the note inside, and then make your way back to Derek's camp.
How To Find Imperial Testing Station No. 29
Your next stop is Imperial Testing Station No. 29, located within the Hagga Rift, just northwest of Testing Station No. 23.
How To Find Imperial Testing Station No. 71
Following that, head to Imperial Testing Station No. 71, situated further west from the previous one. As before, search for the Minimic Film records and another note.
Back To Camp
Afterward, return to camp and then fly back to Arakeen to see Cyprian. Once you've spoken to him, go back to camp once more, where two waves of enemies will attack sequentially: one near the camp and another on the next pillar over.
Once these enemies are dealt with, you must read the note left on Derek's table.
How To Find Imperial Testing Station No. 163
We're nearing the end — this is the final Minimic Film record you’ll need. Imperial Testing Station No. 163 is a short distance north of Station No. 71.
You'll need to clear the entire facility, as the Minimic Film is hidden in the last room. While not significantly harder than other stations, this one might feel slightly easier.
Return To Camp For The Final Time
Finally, return to camp and speak to Derek one last time. He'll share his final piece of Planetologist knowledge, allowing you to spend skill points unlocking any of his abilities you desire.
