Elden Ring Nightreign class tier list

Since there are eight classes in Elden Ring Nightreign, figuring out which one is best for you is well worth your time and that's where our class tier list comes into play. Keep in mind, however, that the best class is subjective to your playstyle so you may disagree with our findings.

We've covered each individual class and why it's received this ranking further along in this guide. (Click on a class above to jump ahead!) Before we get into the details, there's a number of factors you'll want to consider before selecting your class.

First, consider your skill level with Nightreign. Some classes are more complex than others, so you might want to avoid those when you first start playing. This is especially true if this is your first FromSoftware game. If you've played Elden Ring, however, you may discover you're able to pick up on said complex mechanics fairly easily. Just try experimenting in the Sparring Grounds!

To help you out, here's our recommendations for the best beginner and expert Nightreign classes:

• Beginners - Ironeye, Wylder, Guardian
• Experts - Recluse, Revenant, Duchess, Executor

Second is your playstyle. Do you prefer getting up close with melee combat or enjoy the distance range offers you? Are you prepared to learn the complex mechanics of spellcasting? These are all things you'll want to consider when selecting your chosen Nightfarer as each one plays a little differently and you'll need to fully understand their mechanics to take down a Nightlord.

Thirdly, you may want to create a balanced team with your teammates to ensure you're ready for whatever boss crosses your path. Though, it's completely possible to have multiple players playing as the same class in a team so feel free to experiment.

Ideally, however, you'll want to include a range class as it will be incredibly useful during any playthrough. We highly recommend Ironeye as this ranged fighter, because, from combat to reviving fallen allies, their mechanics will be very handy in all of the Expeditions.

Finally, you may also want to consider which class suits the Nightlord you're fighting. As you play Nightreign, you'll slowly figure out which classes are best against each Nightlord and it's worth making your selection based on this knowledge. Maybe you're helping a friend progress in the game or maybe you're just looking for a rematch - either way, it's something to consider.

Ironeye

Ironeye the archer is the best character in Elden Ring Nightreign. As a ranged fighter, not only is Ironeye able to skirt the edges of battle and keep out of the way of big attacks, he's able to revive other players from a distance. Many of the Nightlords will rush across the battlefield leaving melee characters to give chase, while Ironeye can still shoot quickly from afar. His marking ability not only boosts the damage bosses receive, but its invincibility frames mean it can be used to dodge through enemy attacks, even if stamina is empty. And his Single Shot ultimate is powerful for attacking groups of enemies, bosses, and reviving multiple players at once. No team is complete without Ironeye - just don't let bosses get too close.

Seriously, Nightreign can be a lot harder without this class on your side. It's why we strongly recommend including Ironeye in every team. Without this class, you'll be forced to focus on using either up-close melee combat or the magic mechanics that can take a while to properly master. You'll also lose out on Ironeye's ability to revive-at-a-distance, which makes keeping everyone alive during a Nightlord fight a lot more difficult. If you're willing to take the risk, then go for it. Just make sure that everyone is sufficiently skilled in their chosen class.

Overall, Ironeye is at the top of our class tier list for a reason. It has the potential to deal excellent damage, while also providing important support to the rest of the team.

Ironeye is similar to the Bandit class in the original Elden Ring.

Duchess

Duchess excels with her Restage ability that repeats the last few moments of damage dealt to enemies from any players. Ideally, this should be timed after an Ultimate Art or critical hit. Her Ultimate Art turns allies invisible which can be incredibly useful in a pinch. Duchess is best for players who like fast characters to flit in and out of combat - her double dodge is the best in the game and allows for great movement, while her propensity for daggers leads to flurries of quick strikes when up close, ideal for building up status effect damage.

Keep in mind though that you must unlock Duchess if you wish to play as her.

Duchess is similar to the Bandit and Prophet classes in the original Elden Ring.

Wylder

Wylder is the all-rounder of the group and while he doesn't excel in any particular area, he's easy to use and therefore a great character for newcomers to the game. His stats are even across the board, so he's capable with most weapons and can even dabble in magic. Use his Claw Shot liberally to slide across the battlefield to enemies or players as it has a very quick cooldown and is great for repositioning - following it up with his Onslaught Stake ultimate attack often results in an instant stagger.

Wylder is similar to the Warrior and Vagabond classes in the original Elden Ring.

Executor

The Executor is a samurai class with the best Arcane and Dexterity stats in the game. This means he excels at dealing status effect damage, so use Relics with bleed, poison, or scarlet rot damage to really get a head start. Just be careful in the early stages as he can be squishy, but longterm he can deal massive damage. That said, his character skill allows players to parry attacks in a nod to Sekiro, but it's just not necessary in this game where you rarely fight one-on-one. And while his beast transformation ultimate can do big damage and is useful for reviving multiple players, it means he's a big target too.

Executor is similar to the Samurai and Prisoner classes in the original Elden Ring.

Guardian

The bird-man Guardian is the tank character class, meaning he's a great addition to any team to boost defence. He starts each run with a halberd and greatshield, meaning he has decent range and strong defences. However, his movement speed is slow, damage output low, and his dodge distance is tiny. His Whirlwind Skill is great for interrupting attacks, though, while his Wings of Salvation Ultimate is a huge clutch that not only deals big damage but revives multiple players and shields them from damage.

Guardian is similar to the Hero and Warrior classes in the original Elden Ring.

Revenant

Revenant can be complicated to use. She's a necromancer summoner, in a nod to the summons in Elden Ring, who fights from a distance and can summon three different spirits to battle for her. These spirits can be particularly powerful, but there's a steep learning curve to understanding which spirit to use and when. Her Immortal March Ultimate can save a boss battle, though, with its ability to revive players and offer immortality.

The Revenant also has a healing spell, which can come in real handy when you consider how low her starting health is compared to the other classes. As with any healing spell, the trick is knowing when to use it especially during a Nightlord fight. If used correctly, this healing spell can give you the boost needed to revive fallen comrades and potentially win a difficult fight.

It's important to note that, just like with the Duchess, you must unlock the Revenant if you wish to play as her. This does require beating the Revenant first, which will give you a good look at what this class can achieve.

Revenant is similar to the Prophet and Astrologer classes in the original Elden Ring.

Recluse

The black mage of the group, Recluse is the primary magic user in Nightreign. In time and with the right spells, she can become a formidable force. However, she can very quickly run out of FP for her magic, so needs to alternate spell casting with absorbing energy from enemies using her Magic Cocktail skill. In turn, collecting affinity residues from enemies using this skill can result in potent magic, but it takes a long time and experimentation to use Recluse to the fullest. Coupled with her very low HP and movement speed, she's one for experts only.

Make sure you check out our Magic Cocktail spell combinations guide if you're planning on playing as the Recluse. There's a good selection of spells you can use through Magic Cocktail, but, like we said above, you've got to be mixing the right elements to make them work.

Recluse is similar to the Astrologer class in the original Elden Ring.

Raider

So far, Raider is the character used the least in Nightreign. He has the highest strength stat in the game and decent HP, so is certainly a force to be reckoned with, but both his movement and attack speed are too slow compared with other characters. This may work well against bigger, slower bosses, but many of the Nightlords have a tendency to zip around the battlefield out of reach, leaving Raider lagging behind.

Raider is similar to the Hero class in the original Elden Ring.
