Gloom appears as reddish-black patches of sludge on the ground. Step into it and your right-most heart will start flashing purple. You have just a few seconds before that heart becomes petrified and the Gloom progresses to the next one.

Lose all your hearts and it’s Game Over.

Avoiding Gloom is ideal, but it’s not always easy. Many enemies lurking beneath Hyrule are covered in Gloom; when they strike you, you lose hearts equal to the damage dealt. Those hearts remain locked until you either stand in the light (under a Lightroot tree or above ground), or consume a Sunny meal.

As previously mentioned, there is a Gloom-resistant armor set available in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but obtaining it takes considerable effort. To begin with, there are two key elements involved: Bargainer Statues and Poes.

Poes are spirits used as currency to purchase items from Bargainer Statues. We’ll explain how to locate each of these shortly, but for now, know that you'll need to find seven Bargainer Statues and spend a total of 650 Poes to acquire the complete set.

Each statue you discover expands the shop's inventory.

• The first Bargainer Statue is located at Lookout Landing and opens the shop once you possess a Poe
• The second Bargainer Statue adds the Tunic of the Depths
• The third Bargainer Statue adds the Dark Trousers
• The fourth BS adds Gaiters of the Depths
• The fifth adds the Dark Hood
• The sixth Bargainer Statue adds the Hood of the Depths

Intermediate statues unlock parts of the Dark armor set — while stylish (they make Link look like an evil version with glowing red eyes), they offer no Gloom protection.

More importantly, Gloom-resistant hearts regenerate after a short time, meaning you can sprint through Gloom pools instead of carefully avoiding them. With the full set equipped, you gain three Gloom-resistant hearts, which makes traversing dangerous areas much easier.
