Jun 17, 2025 am 10:59 AMSunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be captured and used to create powerful stealth-enhancing elixirs when combined with monster parts in a cooking pot. We advise against mixing them into regular meals, as we tried this and Link ended up consuming something he definitely shouldn't have.
Catching bugs or critters in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents its own set of difficulties, mostly revolving around figuring out where they appear. Additionally, some insects and creatures are very sensitive to noise and movement, making them difficult to catch—especially when enemies are nearby.

How to get Sunset Fireflies in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
You can obtain Sunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by sneaking up and capturing them, or by buying them from Traders using Rupees. Below, we’ve explained both methods in more detail.
Catching Sunset Fireflies
If you've wandered Hyrule at night, you may have already noticed some Sunset Fireflies lingering in certain spots. You can capture Sunset Fireflies successfully if you move quietly, quickly, and without attracting enemies that could ruin your attempt.
When trying to catch a Sunset Firefly, we suggest crouching and moving slowly, as these bugs are easily startled. The slower you approach, the less noise you make, which lowers the chance of scaring them off. If you find it difficult to capture one, consider consuming a stealth-enhancing meal or elixir beforehand.
Once you're close enough, the capture prompt will appear, and all you need to do is press 'A' swiftly to grab the Firefly.
If the capture prompt doesn’t show up, you'll need to inch closer until it does. You can continue creeping forward or try dashing the final distance to snatch it. However, failing the dash will cause the Firefly to disappear and potentially scare others in the area.
Additionally, if there are enemies nearby and they spot you—whether by charging or sounding an alarm—the Sunset Fireflies will scatter. This happened to us multiple times (thank you, Bokoblins). In such cases, eliminate the enemies, and the Fireflies might return after a while, provided it’s still nighttime and the weather remains clear.
Buying Sunset Fireflies
If Bokoblins or poor weather conditions have made catching them too frustrating, you can purchase Sunset Fireflies from Beedle at Hyrule Stable. We've marked their exact location on the map below. The coordinates for Hyrule Stable are 0518, -3442, 0047.
Speak to Beedle (they’re usually outside the front entrance of the stable), and they’ll sell Sunset Fireflies at a cost of 10 Rupees each.
