How to get the Climbing Gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Jun 17, 2025 am 11:45 AM

UPDATE: We have embedded an interactive map to help you with tracking down all Climbing Gear set pieces in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Link, as the hero of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, begins his journey with a rather limited selection of weapons and equipment. While he can handle adversity well, there are certain situations—especially when navigating the world or fighting enemies—where having the right armor makes a big difference.

This armor enhances Link’s climbing speed, allowing him to scale terrain more efficiently. If you want to improve your mountain-climbing experience, here’s how to get the Climbing Gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The full Climbing Gear set in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom includes three individual armor pieces: the Climbing Gear Top, Climbing Gear Boots, and Climbing Gear Bandana.

Wearing this set boosts Link’s climbing speed, letting him ascend mountains faster than usual. In addition, it reduces the stamina cost of jumping while climbing.

For a quick guide on where to find each piece of the Climbing Gear, use the interactive map below:

To obtain the Climbing Gear Top in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to explore a cave. Start by fast traveling to the Sinakawak Shrine near New Serenne Stable, located in the North Hyrule Plains if you haven’t visited before.

From the shrine, head east across the open field. You’ll come across a hole at coordinates -1239, 0771, 0099, shown in the image below.

Jump into the hole and you’ll land inside the North Hyrule Plain Cave. Defeat the Bubbulfrog for a Bubbul Gem, then continue through the cave until you reach a Horroblin enemy.

When you encounter the Horroblin, don’t go further. Instead, look behind the enemy at the waterfall containing a glowing Brightcap.

From the top of the waterfall (where the Bubbul Frog was), jump directly into it and swim behind the cascade. You’ll discover a hidden area with an altar and a chest. Inside that chest lies the Climbing Gear Top. There you go!

This item is also part of Misko's Treasure collection.

Where to find the Climbing Gear Boots

The Climbing Gear Boots in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are found in another cave, this time in the Lanayru region. Begin by fast traveling to the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower.

From there, glide southward toward the base of the mountain. Follow the light blue marker shown in the map below to locate the entrance to the Upland Zorana Byroad Cave.

To enter the cave, cut through the vines using a sharp weapon. Proceed forward until you almost reach the exit, but instead of leaving, turn around. On your right will be a platform with a Rock Like on it. Swim over and climb up.

Once on the ledge, keep moving downward until you arrive at some ruins. Cross the room and use the Ultrahand ability to open the gate, which will drain the water from the chamber.

After the water has drained, check beneath the staircase on Link’s right side. There’s another ornate chest resting on an altar.

Open it to claim the Climbing Gear Boots! Now only one piece of the Climbing Gear remains.

Where to find the Climbing Gear Bandana

To find the Climbing Gear Bandana in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, fast travel to the Ihen-a Shrine at Mipha’s Court. If you haven't been there yet, it’s located atop Ploymus Mountain near the Zora Domain in the Lanayru region.

How to get the Climbing Gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Now, descend the southwest side of the mountain and follow the light blue pin shown in the previous image. This leads to the entrance of Ploymus Mountain Cave at coordinates 3672, 0539, 0272.

Navigating this cave can be tricky due to the slippery terrain. Equip the slip-resistant Froggy Armor or use elixirs to counteract the slick surfaces.

Alternatively, you can build something to help you move around. For instance, I constructed a hot air balloon, flew as far as possible within the cave, and then glided to the end. It worked great.

Continue to the farthest point of the cave until you reach a large platform illuminated by purple glowing rocks. Just beyond the corner, you’ll spot another sparkling chest sitting on an altar.

How to get the Climbing Gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Open the chest and you’ll receive the final piece of the Climbing Gear—the Climbing Gear Bandana.
