When you're out in the world of Palia mining, hunting, foraging, and catching bugs, your backpack fills up fast. Even if you've maxed out the backpack upgrades from Zeki, before long your inventory is overflowing, and you need to go back to your plot to unload your findings.

But it doesn't have to be this way! With The Nurture Of Shadows Quest, along with related quests, you can unlock your new free pet and courier pet functionality. Once you complete this questline, you can use your pet to send items back to your plot, giving you more time to explore.

How To Start The Nurture Of Shadows Quest

Behind the Elderwood Stables fast travel board, in one of the previously empty stalls, is a little blob of echo. Interact with it to start the quest Hexomancy 101.

When you ask Tamala for help cleansing the cursed object you found, she first requests that you prove to her you can handle magical items. To do that, you'll need to have at least one relic fully upgraded to level four and show it to Tamala.

This will complete Hexomancy 101 and begin The Nurture of Shadows.

How To Remove The Curse From The Object

The first step of The Nurture of Shadows is to create a charm that will cleanse the object of the cursed infection. For this you will need:

• 1 Soon Tofu (You can buy the recipe from Reth after reaching Cooking Level 6)
• 1 Midnight Floatfish
• 1 Elderflower
• 3 Cave Piksii

When you give Tamala these items, she'll give you the recipe for a Whitestone Votive. Next, you'll need to gather some materials to use in a ritual to remove the curse.

This time you will need:

• 10 Whitestone Votive (each votive requires 1 Whitestone Slab, 1 Plant Fiber, and 1 Batterfly Bean)
• 3,500 Infected Essence
• 3 Ancient Koi
• 15 Floatfish Mushroom

How To Wake Up The Galdur Pup

The Temple of the Roots is located in the northern section of Bahari Bay. Go inside the temple, then take the flowstone gates directly to The Gardener.

Tell the Gardener about the Galdur pup, and you'll be given the Flow hub. Go back to Elderwood Stables, place the hub beside the pup, then talk to the Gardener through it.

The Gardener will ask for some materials to repair the pup with:

• 2 Platinum Bar
• 5 Palium Bar
• 1 Citrine
• 30 Flow-Infused Wood

Don't forget that if you're struggling to gather materials for your quest, you can use the Request Item feature in the social menu. Plenty of other players on the server are more than happy to help as long as they have the resources to offer!

When you have the materials, go back to the Galdur pup and talk to the Gardener again. After the repairs, the pup is still unresponsive. The Gardener will run a diagnostic, then tell you to return the hub to the temple.

When you get back to the temple with the hub, the Gardener informs you that the Galdur pup is actually a creature living inside the pup chassis. Unfortunately, the Gardener refuses to help you any further.

Report back to Tamala about what the Gardener said, and she'll suggest that perhaps the creature inhabiting the pup simply needs to know it's safe to come out. She then tells you to ask around the village for ideas on what they find comfort in.

Travel to Kilima Village and speak with Jel, Badruu, and Einar. Each one will tell you what they find comforting: Silk, Delaila's cooking, and fish.

Next you'll need to gather the following items and place them around the pup:

• 3 Elderwood Lotus
• 1 Umbraan Betta
• 1 Elderwood Pie
• 4 Silk

After a few moments, the little Echoling using the Galdur pup form emerges briefly to greet you, then goes back into the chassis and comes to life. Congrats, you now have a new pet!
