Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 apparently doesn't have an under-display camera
Jun 20, 2025 pm 03:37 PMAccording to recent reports, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will not include under-display cameras (UDC). Rather than continuing with that design, the Fold 7 is expected to take after the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition — a version that had a limited rollout and included small tweaks and enhancements in select regions.
This information comes from a highly credible source within the industry — particularly knowledgeable about Samsung matters — and has been marked as “confirmed.” It seems that Samsung has chosen to remove the under-display camera that was present on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, likely because of concerns over its subpar image quality. The primary inner display will now adopt a conventional punch hole camera setup, similar to what was seen on the Fold 6 SE.

The Fold 6 featured a punch hole camera on the outer screen for improved photography, but apparently, Samsung wasn’t fully satisfied. As a result, the main display will now have another visual interruption — alongside the crease — in the form of a punch hole. However, this should provide better video call performance when using the unfolded display.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is bigger compared to its predecessor, so the trade-off between lost space due to the punch hole and gained screen area seems favorable overall.
It’s kind of amusing to see Samsung stepping back from under-display cameras while Apple — its biggest rival in the U.S. market — is heading in the opposite direction. Rumors suggest that by 2027, the iPhone 20 could feature a completely notch- and hole-free display. In preparation, the iPhone 18 is expected to introduce a punch hole design, with Face ID components relocated underneath the screen.
It's likely that once under-display camera technology improves significantly, Samsung will reintroduce it into its foldable lineup. If you were hoping for an unbroken main display on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though, this news might be disappointing.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will also be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset — the same one used in the Galaxy S25 series — making it a strong contender against devices like the Oppo Find N5 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to use Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chip in some regions.
What’s more, there are multiple claims suggesting that this year may finally bring us the long-speculated budget-friendly foldable from Samsung — the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
