This non-Galaxy camera king to get a helping hand by none other than Samsung
Jun 20, 2025 pm 03:39 PMSmartphones have more or less reached a plateau in terms of design, and the excitement that once came with new releases has long faded. However, smartphone cameras continue to offer that satisfying thrill. Mobile photography is fantastic and constantly improving. Today, I’d like to draw your attention to an upcoming contender for camera excellence: the Oppo Find X9 series. This time around, Samsung is lending its expertise to enhance the camera capabilities.
Of course, when the Oppo Find X9 series launches (expected in September 2025), the top-tier model will be the Oppo Find X9 Ultra – the most advanced flagship in the lineup.
But today, it’s the Oppo Find X9 Pro that deserves the spotlight: non-Ultra models can still deliver a powerful punch, as many of you are already aware.
What's the deal
I’m excited about the Oppo Find X9 Pro and what the well-known source Digital Chat Station has revealed about it:
In short, the upcoming Find X9 Pro could be the first phone in the world to feature the Samsung HP5 sensor.
Frequent PhoneArena readers may remember the Samsung HP5 sensor being mentioned in a January 2025 article – indeed, there were rumors that the HP5 sensor might be included in the then-unreleased Galaxy S25 Edge. However, when the slim Galaxy S25 Edge finally arrived months later, it featured the HP2 sensor instead.
The Samsung HP5 is anticipated to be a 200 MP sensor built on a 28nm node process, with a pixel size of 0.5μm and an overall sensor size of 1/1.56-inch. While slightly smaller than the 1/1.4-inch HP9 sensor, the HP5 should still be impressive.
If Oppo truly plans to use the HP5 in the Find X9 Pro (specifically for its telephoto camera), this would represent a significant upgrade for current Find X7 Ultra users. For comparison, the Find X7 Ultra’s zoom camera features a much smaller 1/2.51-inch sensor compared to the HP5. Larger sensors generally provide better light sensitivity and improved image detail, which explains why this is such notable news.
The Find X9 Pro might feature just one telephoto lens on the back – and according to Digital Chat Station, "the image quality of the 10X is still good," but "the telephoto may not match the performance of dual periscope lenses." That’s precisely why the lineup also includes an Ultra variant!
Beyond the megapixel count and physical dimensions, the HP5 sensor might include DCG-HDR technology, which should lead to enhanced dynamic range and improved low-light performance.
