If this is your first time playing, Connections asks you to sort a set of 16 words into four groups where each group has some kind of link. That link could be anything — similar meanings, parts of a phrase, items found in a certain location, or something more abstract!

While it might seem straightforward, Connections has varying levels of difficulty: Yellow is easiest, followed by Green, then Blue, and Purple is usually the most difficult. Because of that, figuring out today’s Connection answer can be quite a challenge. You might spot one group immediately, but another might leave you puzzled. That’s where we come in!

Connections was originally developed during The New York Times' annual game jam event and launched as a beta version in June 2023. It has since become one of the most popular games on The NYTimes website, second only to Wordle. Some have even drawn comparisons to the BBC’s Only Connect quiz show...

Rather than jumping straight to the solution, let’s start with a few hints:

Remember — Yellow should be the easiest to solve, followed by Green and Blue, with Purple being the trickiest.

I actually got the Green group right away today — definitely a proud moment! I probably should’ve figured out Yellow quicker too, but I was so focused on the harder ones that I overlooked it.

What to play after Connections?

The obvious choice is Wordle, but if you've already completed that, there are other options from The NYTimes. Try the Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, or Strands — which is still in beta. If you want a break from words, Tiles (a matching game) and Sudoku are great alternatives.

Outside of The NYTimes, Semantle offers a unique twist — you guess words based on meaning rather than spelling, using a numerical score to guide you toward the answer. If you enjoy the Connections format, Puzzgrid offers hundreds of puzzles with a three-minute time limit to solve them.
