Alienware revamped the design of all its monitors as part of a 30th anniversary initiative, but I think the flashy branding detracts from the glow-up. The AW3425DW maximizes desk space while looking sleeker than ever.
The base measures 10.63 x 9.13 inches and sits mostly behind the screen. It’s identical to the design I liked in the Alienware AW2725Q during my review earlier this year, though it’s even more impressive here due to the ultrawide screen’s size. More importantly, it’s a significant step up from the V-shaped legs on the AW3423DWF (the prior curved ultrawide model). Swapping to the new monitor instantly made my desk feel less cluttered while freeing up room for my keyboard and mouse pad. It’s easily my favorite aspect of the AW3425DW.

It's all about the pixel density, baby.
There is a minor compromise in how the screen moves when touched. It feels slightly less stable than the previous design and can shake if the surface isn’t solid. It wasn’t insecure or problematic for me, so this likely won’t be an issue for most users. I’d prefer a slightly looser setup for a smaller base any day, so Alienware made the right call here.In terms of the overall visual design, the navy blue that Alienware used across its 2025 monitor lineup retains its sophisticated appeal. It’s dark enough to blend into black color-coordinated setups. I wish Alienware offered black and white versions to cater to different preferences, but I’m pleased to see the brand moving away from gaming peripheral stereotypes.
One design element that Alienware really needs to reconsider in its monitors is the thick, uneven bezel around the screen with branding on the bottom. Competitors like the LG 34GS95QE offer uniform, slim bezels without branding, making Alienware’s approach seem outdated and tacky. It’s not something I notice often while using the monitor, but it’s a bit of an eyesore otherwise.
240 Hz Meets Modern Standards
The AW3425DW boasts a 240 Hz refresh rate and .03 ms response time, up from the previous model’s 165 Hz and .1 ms. This is the key performance improvement that sets the two models apart and aligns the monitor with competitors.
Games that easily achieve 240 FPS, like Balatro and Monster Train 2, felt much smoother. Titles that run at more moderate framerates on my 4080 Super, such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Doom: The Dark Ages, still benefit from quicker response times. G-Sync continues to handle the heavy lifting by syncing the monitor’s frame rate to the game’s, so you’re only getting the full advantage of 240 Hz when your GPU can support it.
The HDMI ports were upgraded to 2.1 to accommodate the higher refresh rate. One of these replaced one of the two DisplayPort 1.4 ports on the prior monitor. Unfortunately, DisplayPort didn’t receive a similar bump to 2.1. Even though this monitor may not gain much from DisplayPort 2.1, the increased bandwidth would’ve provided a slight performance boost that could’ve kept the DisplayPort port competitive. Most monitors in this category usually support DisplayPort 1.4, so I can’t fault Alienware too much for this decision other than noting it adds to the impression the brand is catching up rather than leading the way.

Where Are the HDR Improvements? -----------------------------?
If you’re searching for an ultrawide gaming monitor, the Alienware 34 240Hz QD-OLED (AW3425DW) is among the top 1440p options. Its fresh design and higher refresh rate are strong improvements, with no significant downsides for these upgrades. Purchase this with confidence.
However, if you’re considering the AW3425DW as an upgrade from a previous-generation monitor, that’s a harder sell. The benefits are minor compared to its price. While I understand the “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” mindset, I hope Alienware takes bolder risks next time.
